Leon J. "Jack" Kitchen, 89, of Boonsboro, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at Washington County Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born October 16, 1919 in Hedgesville, W.Va.., he was the son of the late Wesley K. and Janie Snyder Kitchen
Jack was employed with Bester and Long and retired from Eastern Products in 1981.
He was a life member of the Williamsport Redmen and charter member of the Moose.
He attended Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Mae Itnyre Kitchen; six children, Gloria Jean Clopper and husband, Ed, of Hagerstown, Kenneth Kitchen and wife, Liz, of Funkstown, Ronald Kitchen and wife, Rita, of Boonsboro, Robert Kitchen of Boonsboro, Barbara A. Hallmark of Hagerstown and Deborah K. Grim and husband, Dave, of Funkstown; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Staley of Martinsburg, W.Va.., Leona Reeder of Boonsboro and Lyda Crawford of Boonsboro; three brothers, Bruce Kitchen of Boonsboro, Paul Kitchen of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Raymond Kitchen of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Snyder and Charles Kitchen; three sisters, Josephine Golliday, Amanda Myers and Lucille Kefauver; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
