Leon Springs

January 30, 1963 — February 18, 2016

Leon W. Springs, 53, of Boonsboro, Md passed unexpectantly on February 18, 2016, at Jefferson Medical Center in Charlestown, WVa.

Leon is survived by his wife Bonnie (Hartle) Springs and son Alexander, of Boonsboro. His siblings Doris Springs and Joseph Springs, of Washington, DC. In-laws Robert and Hazel Schwab of Hagerstown, Linda Stockman of Alabama, Ron Hartle of West Virginia, Robert Schwab of Nevada, Michael Schwab of Hagerstown, Mary Garlits of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Alice Springs, siblings Teresa Ellison, John Robinson, Jerome Robinson, Ruby Brown, Romaine Burns, and brother-in-law Kenneth Schwab.

Leon was born on January 30, 1963 in Washington, DC. He graduated Theodore Roosevelt High School and attended the University of the District of Columbia. Leon and Bonnie married on May 7, 1995 in Frederick, Md and welcomed Alexander, October 25, 2000. Leon spent the last 17 years employed at Footlocker in FSK Mall, where he was the Store Manager, best known as "Coach" to his co-workers and customers.

Leon was a beloved member of the Boonsboro Community where he was active in the BAAA youth sports organization. Leon was a coach, mentor, and fan to all the players and teams. He always had a smile, handshake, high-five, or hug for anyone he met. Leon was the proudest spectator; always around to cheer, direct, and encourage those who needed it most. The number of lives that Leon touched through sports will never be unknown. He impacted all those he came in contact with.

Viewing will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 5pm to 9pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, Boonsboro, Md.

Sunday, February 28, 2016, Memorial Service / Celebration of Life will be held at the Boonsboro High School Gymnasium at 5pm. A time of remembrance will immediately follow the Memorial service and a light repast will be offered in the school cafeteria.

Leon would love to be remembered in the manner you shared his life. Please honor him by wearing your team colors or jerseys. Casual and Comfortable...just like Leon!
