Leon Enfield

March 21, 1933 — December 8, 2018

Leon B. Enfield passed away at Buckingham’s Choice on December 8, 2018 at the age of 85.

He was born March 21, 1933 in Delta, Pennsylvania to the late Bertram Enfield and Sara Deane Thompson Enfield.  After their move to Maryland when Leon was a youth, he graduated in 1951 from Brunswick High School as Class President.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Geisbert Enfield, who was his full partner in the farm, activities and in life.

Leon was a well-known dairy farmer in Frederick County.  Working first with his Dad and later with his wife and son, Bob, they developed a well-respected dairy farm partnership and were inducted into the Maryland Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1995.  Leon was an active member, then leader of 4-H in the Petersville area.  He became a 4-H All Star in 1969 and won the Maryland 1983 State 4-H Alumni award.

Leon and his family have been Frederick County Farm Bureau members for over 60 years.  He served as President of Frederick County Farm Bureau from 1967-70, Vice President of Maryland Farm Bureau from 1975-80 and President of Maryland Farm Bureau from 1981-83.  He served on the Maryland Agriculture Commission for 6 years, as chair from 1970-82.  He also served and chaired on many agriculture-oriented committees through 2008.

Leon was very active in the New Hope United Methodist Church of Greater Brunswick.  He was a former member of the Brunswick Jaycees, was an alternate member of the Board of Zoning Appeals for Frederick County and served as President of the Frederick County Board of Election Supervisors for over six years.

Leon was well known for his jousting activities. He was a member of various clubs including the Maryland Jousting Tournament Association and the Western Maryland Jousting Club.  He won four National Jousting Championship titles and eight State Championship titles.  He was a charter member of the National Jousting Hall of Fame, Class of 1979.  Leon was inducted into the Frederick County Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

Leon is survived by his three children: Linda Minnick and husband, Darrell, of Middletown; Robert “Bob” Enfield of Keedysville, and Ken and his wife, Janice Enfield, of Easton, MD.  He will be remembered by four grandchildren: Corey Minnick and wife, Nicole, of Hagerstown, Craig Minnick and partner, Danielle of Lexington, SC, Bradley Enfield and Marley Enfield of Keedysville; four great-grandchildren: Noah and Rachel Minnick of Hagerstown and Delilah and Cicely Minnick of Lexington, SC; and sister, Adelaide Lutman of Lovettsville, VA.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, December 13th at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 13th at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick with Pastor Katie Bishop officiating. Burial will be held at the Jefferson Reformed Cemetery.
