Leon Bowers

Born on October 2, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Samuel and Viola (Shaw) Bowers.

Leon attended Dargan Schools.

He was a life-long member of Samples Manor Church of God in Dargan.

Leon was a farmer all of his life and owned and operated the Clearview Farm in Samples Manor, Maryland and Lakeview Farm in Rohrersville, Maryland.

When not working on the farm, Leon loved spending time with his family and hunting.

Leon is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Doris (Nelson) Bowers of Dargan; a daughter, Viola McDonald and her husband, Charles of Boonsboro; five sons, Samuel "Sam" Bowers and his wife, Robin of Rohrersville, John Bowers and his wife, Thelma, of Boonsboro, Thomas "Richie" Bowers and his wife, Cindy of Rohrersville, Joseph "Joey" Bowers and his wife, Kelly of Samples Manor, and Leon "Jamie" Bowers and his wife, Janice of Rohrersville; his two sisters, Leona Saville of Keedysville and Della Thompson and her husband, John of Boonsboro.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel Bowers, Jr.; a sister, Doris Bowers; and three brothers, Harry, Thomas, and Samuel Bowers.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  The Rev. Roger I. Martin will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery in Dargan.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
