Lena May Bradley Itnyre (93)
Lena May Bradley Itnyre, 93, of Boonsboro, passed from this life on July 31, 2018, at Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home and Village in Boonsboro, Maryland, where she has lived since 2011. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Recher Itnyre, who died on April 26, 2013.
Born on May 19, 1925, in Charleston, West Virginia, Lena was the daughter of the late Kenneth Andrew Bradley and Cora Leah Hudson Bradley. Lena grew up in Peytona, West Virginia, a little town she remembered fondly and spoke of often.
Lena graduated from Davis & Elkins College with a degree in elementary education. Her first teaching job was in Boonsboro teaching 4th grade. She married Ed in 1951 and together they raised three daughters, Mary Margaret, Susan Bradley, and Kathryn Jean. Ed and Lena lived in Bethesda, Maryland, for 30 years before retiring to their farm in Rohrersville.
Lena was a devoted homemaker and dedicated community volunteer. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Hospice, Homemakers Club, Meals on Wheels, and sang in the church choir. Lena loved learning. With her husband, Lena took classes in music and history and traveled all over the world. They were members of the Opera Society, participated in the Peabody Institute, and regularly attended performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. At Fahrney Keedy, Lena enjoyed a host of activities, including drumming, Book Club, Bible Study, and Newsflash.
Lena cherished her many friends, her loving family, and her dog, Gert. She is survived by her sister, Helen Pritt; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bruce Glick; her daughter, Kathryn Medley; her son-in-law Eric Vanlaer; her grandchildren, Ashley Medley, Bethany Medley, Aaron Glick and wife Mary Hansell, Renee Minnick and husband Mickey, and David Glick and wife Elisabeth Rigolage; and her three great-grandchildren, Audrey Katherine Glick, Colette Bradley Glick, and Avi Xavier Minnick.
Lena is preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Mary Margaret Itnyre Vanlaer, and her brothers, William, Kenneth, Paul, and Harold Bradley.
An 11 a.m. viewing, followed immediately by a noon funeral and graveside service, will be held on Friday, August 3, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 64 South Main Street in Boonsboro. Pastor Robert Lewis will officiate. Final resting place will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation Smile or Children’s Hospital (Children’s National Health System Foundation).
