Mr. Lee B. Smith, Jr., 74, a lifelong resident of Brunswick, MD passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was the beloved husband of Marian Cooper Smith for 46 years.
Born on December 29, 1939 at home in Brunswick he was the son of the late Lee B. Sr. and Etelka Knadler Smith.
Lee graduated from Brunswick High School in 1958 and then completed many Federal Reserve Banking courses. He worked for the B&O Railroad and then went on to become the Vice President and Manager of the Brunswick branch of Farmers and Mechanics National Bank for 40 years where he served as President of the Board of Directors. Aside from his family, trains and photography were his passions. Lee dedicated much of his time to the organization and opening of the Brunswick Railroad Museum. He was an active third floor Engineer volunteer and served as President and Treasurer for many years as well as serving on the Board of Directors for more than 25 years. Lee was a member of the Brunswick Rotary Club and served multiple terms as President and Treasurer. He also served as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Brunswick Medical Center, on the Board of Trade and Economic Development Commission for the town of Brunswick, and as Co-President of the Brunswick Elementary PTO. Lee was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. On November 9, 1985 Lee was named a Distinguished Citizen of Brunswick.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his cherished daughter, Kimberlee Butler and her partner, Jeremy Wilson of Jefferson, his only grandchild and the apple of his eye, Briana Butler, his brother-in-law and wife, Charles E and Mary McCall, niece Tamara Muir, nephews Charles W. McCall and Denver Muir Jr, great nieces Elizabeth Muir and Margaret McCall, great nephew William McCall, aunts and uncles Emogene and Donald Wyand and Della and John Thompson, and former son-in-law Daniel Butler, Jr.
He is preceded in death by his in-laws Newton and Mary Cooper and sister-in-law Edith Cooper McCall.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 3-5PM and 7-9PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 3 at 11AM. Rev. Katie Bishop will officiate.
Interment will be private.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Frederick County, New Hope United Methodist Church or the Brunswick Railroad Museum.
