Leah Shifler

Leah Kathleen (Holmes) Shifler, 89, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on November 8, 1926 in Keedysville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John William and Mary (Marsh) Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Elwood Shifler, on August 22, 2002.

She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School.

Leah was employed with D&P Dry Cleaners in Hagerstown and also had worked as a greeter at Walmart. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by one daughter, Candy S. Appleby and husband Doug of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; one son, R. Gregory Shifler of Hagerstown; two sisters, Louise Hamilton, and Patsy Hoover and husband Dean, all of Hagerstown; and two granddaughters, Hillary Appleby Bohrer and husband Kevin, and Autumn Appleby, all of Greencastle. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Pacyna.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, in Boonsboro. Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Interment will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
