Mr. Lawrence (Larry) McBride Watson, 95, of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. He was the loving husband of the late Doris Stirling Watson, whom he married October 6, 1940, at the Throggs Neck Presbyterian Church, Throggs Neck, NY. Born on March 14, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Harry Clinton and Elizabeth Hanley Watson. Larry graduated from Harren High School in Manhattan, NY majoring in aviation. He graduated from Casey Jones School of Aviation having received all of A & E Federal Aviation licenses. In 1939 he worked for Brewster Aeronautics and then for Sperry Gyroscope in Lake Success, New York. In 1975 he retired from Pan American Airlines as a Project Manager. Besides his love for his family and friends, Larry’s life was centered around his love for God and his church. He was an active member with Throop Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rosedale, NY where he served as an Elder and taught Sunday School. Upon moving to Frederick in 1988, he joined the Frederick Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and together with the Pastor, he organized the Prime Timers Senior Group, which remains active today. Although Larry accomplished many things in his life, he was active in numerous organizations, including serving for three years as a Cub Scout leader. Larry was Master Council of the Demolay Organization. In 1940, he joined the Masonic Order, Angle Lodge No. 565 F&AM Bronx, NY, and was an active member for over 75 years, which was one of his proudest accomplishments. He was an inspiration to the many lives he touched. His laughter will be missed but his warmth and giving ways will forever reside within our hearts. Larry lived his life walking with God, thanking God for “just one more day” and for all the days God made so special to him. Larry was a gentle, kind and loving man. He was very devoted to his late wife and family. Surviving are his four children, Doris Lynne Thomas and Don of Taneytown, Dayle Margaret Good of Frederick, Jayne Beverly Bongard and John of New Market and Nancy Joan Hartten and Stephen of Myersville; eight grandchildren: Laura Schneider, Lawrence Thomas, LTC. John Bongard III, U.S. Army Reserves, Sgt. 1st Class Dayle Matus, U.S. Army, Christa Oakley, Karen Good, Nancy Good and Michael Maher; and 10 great grandchildren ; and a sister Eleanor Burke. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret Morton and Virginia Vernum; a brother Harry Watson and a dear son-in-law: Ronald Good. A Memorial service will be held Sunday, September 8, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at the Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. 2 nd St., Frederick, MD. Reverend Eric Myers will officiate. Inurnment will be private at Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Frederick MD. In memory of Mr. Watson, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O.
