Laura Ann Guthrie

Mrs. Laura Ann Guthrie, 62, of Frederick, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Hospice Kline House, Mt. Airy after waging a courageous 3-year battle against ovarian cancer.

She was the loving wife of the Reverend Clinton C. Guthrie, Jr. her husband of 39 years. Born Sept. 21, 1946, in Sherman, Tx., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Eugene and Ann Thomas Skelton.

Laura graduated from Central High School in Phoenix, Az. and went on to graduate from Baylor Uiversity,Waco,Tx.,
then received her Masters degree from Western Maryland College, Westminster, Md. She taught in elementary and middle schools in Denver, Co., Baytown, Tx.,Chardon, Oh., Graceville, Fl., Carol Christian Academy, Westminster, Md., and Frederick County Public Schools, Md., where she retired last September after a long tenure as principal of Spring Ridge Elementary School.

During her career with FCPS, Laura was a teacher, School Support teacher, a consultant in staff development, Assistant Principal at, now, Lincoln Elementary School then Hillcrest Elementary School, then Principal at Wolfsville Elementary School before becoming Principal of Spring Ridge Elementary.

Her love of the Lord and faith in Christ led her to a life of service in many churches as a pianist, Sunday School teacher, women's leader,conference
leader, youth worker, children's worker, counselor,and pastor's wife.

She also lived her life of faith as a teacher, school administrator, neighbor, and friend. Laura enjoyed traveling all over the United States and to several foreign countries, doing mission work in some.

She was a helper and encourager to many.

In addition to her husband, Clint, she is survived by a brother, Henry Skelton and wife Janet, of Athens, Tx.; a sister, Martha Carpenter and husband, Bain, of Brentwood, Tn.; and another brother, William Skelton and wife Heloisa, of Nunan, Ga.; plus several nieces
and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, March 23, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Dr., Frederick, Md., with the
Reverend Dr. Michael Trammell officiating. Burial will take place in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Rte.15N, Frederick, following the
service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Thurmont, P.O. Box 205, 7 Sunny Way, Thurmont, Md.,
