Launa “Sis” (Draper) Mellott, 83, of Boonsboro, Maryland, died at her home on Monday, May 26, 2014 while surrounded by her family.
She was born in Fairplay, Maryland, the daughter of the late Harry and Harriett (Showman) Draper. She was baptized and married at Manor Church of the Brethren and she was also a member of the St. James Brethren Church.
She graduated from Williamsport High School, class of 1948, and the Hagerstown Business School. After her education she began working at Nationwide Insurance before marrying. For many years she was a happy homemaker living on a farm in Boonsboro. She was famous for her homemade pies, slippery pot pie, egg noodles and down-home cooking. After moving from the farm in 1969, she worked at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village in Boonsboro as the bookkeeper. After retiring she traveled with her family and friends on many Baer Express Bus Line trips, and also joined the Senior South Side Bowling League.
She was known for her love of everyone in her immediate and extended family and for her kind and gentle character. She had a love for all the “little ones”.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Lyle (Scrub) G Mellott. She is also survived by daughters, Jo Clingan and husband James of Waynesboro PA, Cathy Munson and husband Robert of Boonsboro, and Sandie Jamison of Boonsboro. She is survived by grandchildren, Rachel Roth & husband Mike of Williamsport, Jeremy Jamison & wife Stacey of Hancock, Jessica Miller and husband Matt of Baltimore, Jacob Munson, A.J. Jamison and Logan Jamison all of Boonsboro, and great grandchildren Grant Roth, and Lilly and Wyatt Jamison.
She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Deike and Norma Zeger both of Hagerstown; four brothers Melvin Draper & wife Abby of Sharpsburg, Robert Draper of Baltimore, Roger Draper of Hagerstown, and Terry Draper and wife Kim also of Hagerstown. She is also survived by sisters-in law, Olive Draper, Ellie Draper, and Shelva Jean Draper; brother-in law Robert Eckstine; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by five brothers, Emory Draper and wife Lorraine, Albert, Wayne, Glenn and Earl Draper; three sisters, Hazel Draper, Martha Eckstine, and Irene Phillips and husband Tom; sister-in-law Evelyn Shaull; brothers -in-law, Rod Deike and Phil Zeger.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Manor Church of the Brethren Church, 18715 Manor Church Road in Boonsboro. Rev. Joy E. Zepp and Rev. Brad Selan will officiate.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.
