Larry Wenschhof, 80 of Frederick passed away on August 2, 2024. He was the husband of Doris Wachter Wenschhof, his wife of 50 years.
He is survived by his daughter Stacy Wenschhof Rumpf and husband Randy, and his nephew Aaron Wachter and wife Katie and their children Molly & Logan, as well as Sara Downs Eberle, a dear friend.
Larry was the son of the late Anna Mae Wenschhof and spent his early childhood in Gettysburg, PA, later moving to Thurmont, MD where he was a 1962 graduate of Thurmont High School.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War Era at the Pentagon serving in an intelligence division.
His entire career was spent in the hardware industry as a buyer and sales representative with Orgill (formerly Frederick Trading Co.) retiring after 49 years.
Larry and his wife Doris had a woodworking business, D&L Woodworks, where he excelled as a self-taught master wood craftsman making custom jewelry boxes and armoires as well as designing custom woodwork for clients. He could be found yearly at the Thurmont Colorfest in the Community Park displaying his works of art.
Larry was a life member of the Independent Hose Company No. 1 where he served in various administrative officer roles over the years and was a driver of Canteen 1. Larry was inducted into the Frederick County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association Hall of Fame in 2024. He was also a member of the American Legion Francis Scott Key Post 11, Frederick Elks, and Amvets.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Margaret Wachter and brother-in-law, Ronald “PoPo” Wachter, as well as several aunts.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 12 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tim May officiating.
Interment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
