Larry Stitely

April 19, 1943 — November 23, 2016

Mr. Larry Richard Stitely of Frederick made his transition into God's Kingdom on November 23, 2016 while vacationing with his son, Tim, in Florida.

Born April 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Richard Orville Stitely and Ruth Elizabeth Garver Stitely. He was 73 years young.

He attended Frederick County schools and prided himself at starting to work at the age of 13 delivering the Frederick News on his bicycle in the streets of Frederick until the age of 16. He also worked at Hood College, his Uncle Kenny's restaurant, the former Dicks Garage in Mt. Pleasant, Ox Fiber Brush Company, and lastly at H.B. Duvalls, Inc., where he retired after 33 years as a parts clerk.

He enjoyed his life to the fullest despite many years of health issues with Coronary Artery Disease, Addisons Disease and Diabetes.

He loved to travel to Tennessee (Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg); Niagara Falls, and the many trips to Florida. Larry was a "home body" just enjoying being with his family watching favorite TV shows, especially the "soaps," "Young and the Restless" and "Bold and Beautiful."

He was a "role model" husband to his wife; high school sweetheart, the former Darlene Louise Toms Stitely. Their marriage of 55 years (November 17, 1961) created three amazing children: Tamera Louise Stitely Anthony (Bruze, Bernie) of Walkersville;  Todd Richard Stitely (Autumn Beth Gearinger Stitely) of Boonsboro; and Timothy Lee Stitely of Florida; and seven grandchildren, Bernard Allen Anthony III (Diana), Amy Louise Anthony, Tony Lamar Anthony (Holly), Cierra Danielle Anthony Baker (Charlie), Christopher Joseph Anthony (Casey), Daniel Richard Stitely (Rachelle) and Rachael Beth Stitely (Joel).

Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren, Riley, Mason, Brady, and Carter Anthony, Brooke and Shane Baker, Camden Stitely, Layla McCutcheon, Landon Wisner, and Craig and Carlee Whitcomb. Also to mourn his loss is a loving sister, Barbara Ann Stitely Krom and a brother, Richard Derick Stitely (Collyn).

The family is so appreciative and grateful for all the years of "outstanding" professional care he received from Dr. Robert Kaufmann, and his cardiologist, Dr. Kusay Barakat.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Donations in Larry's memory can be made to American Heart Assoc., 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060; or American Diabetes Assoc., 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
