Mr. Larry Eugene Mercer, 71 of Middletown, MD passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at his home in Chincoteague, Virginia.
Born on February 26, 1942 in Frederick he was the son of the late Joseph and Nancy Mercer.
Larry was a firefighter for 45+ years and retired from Bethesda in Montgomery County. He was a lifetime member of Braddock Heights Company 12 and he was the chief and assistant chief for many years.
He was an Air Force Firefighter and from 1960-1964 and was stationed in Washington State.
Larry was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post #9 in Middletown, the American Legion Post #159, Redman Club, IAFF Montgomery County Firefighters Association, Pedro Helicopter Association and a friend and clam digger for I Clam 4U in Chincoteague.
He was survived by his daughter Laura Mercer of Middletown, MD, his sister, Donna Mercer of Frederick, a brother, John “Jack” Mercer of Rehoboth, DE, loving companion, Cindy Hull and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ann Hartsock Mercer and a brother Timothy Mercer.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, February 13th from 6-9PM.
A memorial service celebrating Larry’s life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 14th at 1:00PM.
Inurnment will follow the services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s name to the Hospice of Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite 3, Onancock, VA 23417.
An informal celebration of his life will be held on the weekend of June 21st and June 22nd in Chincoteague, VA.
