Larry Horst

Larry G. Horst, 68, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born on September 18, 1947, in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Noah and Martha (Martin) Horst.

Larry was a Veteran of the United States Army.

He earned his Associates Degree in 2001 from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Larry was an electrician having retired from the Railroad.  He had also been employed at Ft. Detrick in Frederick.

He was a Member of the AMVETS, and the Steadman-Keenan American Legion Post 96 in Brunswick, Maryland.

Larry was a private guy, who kept to himself but would always help his neighbors.  He will always be remembered for his love of restoring cars.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Helen M. (Huffman) Horst; one daughter, Terry L. Horst and Fiancé Jerry King, Jr. of Boonsboro; one sister Sue Vanderford, of Hagerstown; three brothers, Robert Horst of Flintstone, Maryland, and Delbert and Danny Horst both of Hagerstown; and two grandsons, Chance J. Bowman and Jeremy L. King, both of Sharpsburg.  He is also survived by his many friends from his surrounding community

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sisters, Louise Foreman.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Pastor Darrel L. Strite will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery in Sharpsburg, with Military Honors rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion from Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, March, 18, 2016 at the funeral home.
