August 16, 1940 — June 3, 2016

Larry Wayne Cooling, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at his home in Frederick, MD on Friday, June 3, 2016 following a long and courageous fight with cancer.  His wife and family were at his bedside.  Larry was born in Olney, MD August 16, 1940, to Ruth and Herman Cooling.  He was 75 years old.

Larry started his career as a plumber.  He went to work for Montgomery County in 1972 and retired as Building Maintenance Supervisor after more than 30 years with the County.  After retirement, he and his wife Betty became snow birds, spending winters in New Port Richey, Florida and returning to Frederick for their summers.

Larry was preceded in death by both parents and his sisters Sherry Graves of Olney and Pam Nichols of Laurel, Delaware.  He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth (Baines) Cooling; son Gary Cooling and his wife, Angela, and their children Brady, Brennan, and Olivia of Bishopville, MD; his step-daughter Terri Cameron and her husband, Billy, and their children Gabriel, Elisha, Jordan, Michelle, and Dereck, of Frederick; and his step-son John Holloway and his wife, Elaine Reed, of Rocklin, California. He also leaves his brother Richard Cooling of New Port Richey, Florida and his sister Peggy Cleaveland of Rockville as well as many other close family and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Main Mausoleum and Chapel Building, 515 South Market Street, Frederick on Tuesday, June 7th at 11:00AM followed by a gathering at The Arc at Market Street, 555 South Market Street, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Arc of Frederick County, 620A Research Court, Frederick, MD 21703 or to Frederick Memorial Hospital, Regional Cancer Therapy Center, 501 West 7th Street, Frederick.  Special thanks is given to the caring staff and volunteers from the Hospice of Frederick County and the Home Instead Senior Care agency as well as to the many family and friends who kept him company and lifted his spirits during his illness.
