KURT MICHAEL KROEGER, born July 3, 1976 of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Fulton, MD passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2011. He is the beloved son of Diane Phelps Gulden & husband Dan, Fulton, MD and David Scott Kroeger & wife Jane, Bristol, PA. In addition to his parents he is survived by his devoted Life Partner DJ (Duncan Joseph) Moore of Los Angeles, CA; brothers & sisters, Kris, Cale & Courtney Kroeger & Kerri Sofield; Godparents Ken & Linda Krouse; Grandparents, Pat Moore & Bill & Diane Gulden; Aunts & Uncles – Larry & Leroy Phelps, Mabel Phelps Vansant, Mary Jane Phelps Gordon (JR) , James Phelps (Vera), Leanne Gulden Kienzle (Steve), Kathy Moore Wallace (Jim), Gary Moore (Peggy). Cousins Katie Vansant Jacoby, Sandy Phelps, & Penny Phelps Newhart.
He was preceded in death by his treasured maternal grandmother, Sarah Jane Allnutt Phelps, paternal grandparents, Warren & Tiney Kroeger, Donald (Poppy) Moore, stepsister Trish Gulden, Aunt Melanie Gulden, Uncle Doug Moore.
Kurt graduated from Atholton High School, Columbia, MD 1994; University of Maryland BS in Molecular & Cellular Biology, 1998; Johns Hopkins University, Masters of Science in Biotechnology 2004. Kurt has spent his entire career pursuing scientific research, particularly in the field of gene therapy. Kurt previously worked for Genvec, Germantown, MD, and the Cedars-Sinai Gene Therapeutics Research Institute, Los Angeles, CA. Kurt recently started his dream job as Research Coordinator of the Molecular and Medical Pharmacology Department at the David Geffen School of Medicine University of California, Los Angeles. During his career he has published over 50 scientific publications, many on “Targeted Gene Therapy for Brain Tumors” which can be accessed through the PubMed website.
Kurt had a smile that no one could resist, and amazing loves of live music, landscaping & nurturing his backyard pool and tropical garden, which truly is a beautiful and serene oasis where he enjoyed escaping from the bustling city. Kurt & DJ loved to travel – touring the US (in particular his favorite place – Hawaii) and also Brazil, Guatemala, Italy, England, France, Switzerland, Argentina, and Mexico.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD on Monday, December 5, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm, where a memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 6, at 1:00 p.m.

Kurt will be sadly missed by all of his friends, colleagues, and family. He truly touched the lives of all who knew him in a special way.
