Mr. Kenneth “Ken”Lee Eckerle, 75 of Frederick, MD passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Citizens Care & Rehab Center.
Born October 18, 1936 in Jasper, IN he was the son of the late Alphonse and Thresia Eckerle.
Ken graduated from Indiana State University in 1958 and received his masters from the University of Maryland.
He was internationally known in spectrophotometry. He helped design the world’s most accurate spectrophotometry for measuring color. He retired from N.I.S.T as a physicist.
He was a member of several cat clubs, including Hidden Peak Cat Fanciers and the Mad Catters Club, and was involved in showing champion Himalayan cats for many years. He also enjoyed music and ballroom dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his four stepchildren, Leslie B. Fowler (Leon) of Manchester, TN ; Lorena E. Bredenberg (Greg) of Live Oak, FL; Deirdre K. Norris (Billy) of Mt. Airy, and Michael E. Norris (Lisa) of St. Augustine, FL; a brother, James Eckerle and wife June of Loogotee, Indiana, two sisters, Gloria Lehr of Jasper, Indiana and Donna Smith and husband Kenneth of Jasper, Indiana; as well as his grandchildren, Amber B. Della Giustina, Brook R. Wood, Christopher Norris, Barbara Norris, Eric Norris, Angelia Hart, Paul Fowler, Lee Fowler, Amanda Brewer, Madison Norris, Mikey Norris, Mercedes Norris, Madden Norris, and his great grandchildren, Casey Della Giustina, Kiley Brewer and Madelyn Brewer and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00am at Holy Family, 7321 Burkittsville Road, Middletown with Msgr. Robert Jaskot officiating.
