Kenneth "Doc" Simmers, Sr., 70, of Thurmont, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017. He was the loving husband of Patricia Simmers, to whom he was married for 27 years. Born February 8, 1947 in Thurmont, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Simmers.
Doc was a school bus driver for FCPS, provided custom farming and drove a tractor trailer for numerous companies, including Keilholtz Trucking. He was a dedicated volunteer fireman with 50+ years at Graceham Volunteer Fire Department. He was recently inducted into the FCVFRA Hall of Fame and received he Marbery F. Gates Service Cup for 50 years of dedicated service from the State Firemen's Association. Farming, Trucking ad Firefighting were his life.
Surviving in addition to his wife are Kenneth Simmers, Jr. (Gaye), Step-daughter Yvonne Feight (Cindy), Step-son Gary Feight (Denise) and 2 grandchildren. He will also be remembered by special friend Gary Kesselring (Nora), "adopted" kids Bill & Amy Morgan and "adopted" grandkids Alexis & Patrick Morgan.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD 21788. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at which time funeral services will be held in the funeral home. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Graceham Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 181, Thurmont, MD 21788.
