Kenneth Yang

March 17, 1972 — June 13, 2020

After a courageous battle with lung cancer, Kenneth Kai-Chieh Yang of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away peacefully on June 13, 2020 at Montgomery Hospice’s Casey House.

Born March 17, 1972, Kenneth grew up in Rockville, Maryland and was the son of Pauline Yang and the late Albert Yang. He graduated from Walter Johnson High School in 1991.  During those years, he developed a love of photography and was a photographer for the school’s yearbook.  He was especially proud to be the first developmentally disabled member of the club.  Kenneth then went on to study Computer Graphics Art and Animation at Montgomery College and after years of hard work, obtained a certificate in 2001.

As an adult, Kenneth was immensely proud to live independently in his own apartment. He also continued to develop his love for photography, movies, and the art of animation and filmmaking.  He was an avid collector of movies, books about movie making, and film cameras.  He spent much of his time carefully curating his beloved collection.

Kenneth will be remembered to all that knew him as a uniquely genuine, kind, and loving soul.  He was funny, sarcastic, and honest.  He truly enjoyed the simple things in life and unconditionally loved his family and all those close to him.

In addition to his mother, Kenneth is survived by his three sisters, Cassie Terra of Adamstown, MD; Carrie Yang-Johnson of Waterford, VA; Kamie Yang of Ann Arbor, MI; and his brother-in-laws, Jay Terra, Thomas Johnson, and Greg Gilchrist.  He leaves behind seven nieces and nephews: Nathan, Molly, Grace, Jacob, Ella Rae, Kate, and Michael.

The family will be hosting a small gathering on Saturday June 20, 2020 between 10:30-11:30 am at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick, MD.  (We will be wearing masks and will do our best to social distance).  Written condolences to the family may be left at www.StaufferFuneralHome.com.
