Kenneth “Snook” Franklin Rice Sr., 72 of Edinburg Virginia, passed away February 26, 2015 surrounded by Family at his daughter’s home in Frederick, MD.
Kenny was born in New Market, Virginia on January 10, to the late Vista Bridget Dellinger Hoover and Raymond Franklin Rice. Raised in MD by his mom and Step-Father Harold Douglas Hoover. He has One Sister, Dixie Gochenour of Edinburg, VA, Dixie was Kenny’s solid ground who he adored and looked up to all his life.
Primarily growing up in Maryland, Kenny attended Bladensburg High School and lived and raised his family in Prince Georges County, Maryland until his retirement in 2000 where he relocated back to his family home in Edinburg, Virginia.
Kenny was a retired Floor Mechanic for over 40 years; Kenny was well known and respected in the floor covering industry. Kenny drove for Frito lay in the 60’s and also delivered the Washington Star and Washington Post paper in the late 70’s and early 80’s. In Kenny’s younger years he enjoyed teaching his boys to fish and hunt. As a past time and hobby Kenny would work on cars with his sons, this is something they enjoyed and have passed on to their own sons. If you had a question on a car Kenny was the man to call. Even his grandchildren would call for advice.
In 72 years Kenny was able to see all of his children grow up and start their own families.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, of Frederick, MD, and his 7 children: son Kenny Jr., (Shirley) of Marlton, NJ and their 6 children; son David (Sharon) of Bowie, MD and their 3 children and 2 grand-children; daughter Suzie Johnson (Steve) of Berwyn Heights, MD, and their 2 children; daughter Kimberly Lally (Tim) of Frederick, MD, and their 4 children; daughter Lynda Atkinson (Johnny) of Laurel, MD and their 2 children; son Brian (Debbie) of Frederick, MD and their 4 children and 3 grand-children; and daughter Crystal Gilbert of Frederick MD and her 3 children, as well as two nieces.
Kenny is also survived by three-half brother Billy E. Rice and James A. Rice of Broadway and Raymond F. Rice, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and two-half sisters Linda Greer of Winston-Salem and Paula Jo Lucas of High Point, NC
Kenny was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, willing laugh, and warm smile.
Kenny will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered by his family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family at Stauffer Funeral Home 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD , Monday, March 2, from 2-4pm, Services will follow at 4:00 pm
