Kenneth Eugene Lutz (Coach Magic), 68, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Born on July 12, 1944, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Roy C. and Bertha Mildred (Hershey) Lutz.
Ken was a 1962 graduate of the William Penn High School in Harrisburg, and a 1964 graduate of the Radiological School of Technology at Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital. He received an Associate of Allied Science degree from Hahneman University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He was formerly employed as the Chief X-Ray Technologist at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chester, Pennsylvania and also served as the Administrator of the School for Radiological Technologists.  Ken was instrumental in the creation of the Springfield Medical Imaging Center in Springfield, Pennsylvania.  He relocated to Washington County, Maryland where he worked as the Chief Operating Officer at both Associated Radiologists, P.A. and Associated Radiologists Billing Services, Inc., both in Hagerstown.  He was also instrumental in the development of Diagnostic Imaging Services, LLC.  Ken was a founding and charter member of the Radiology Business Management Association.
One of Ken's passions was coaching football. He began coaching at the youth level in Pennsylvania in the Bert Bell Memorial Football Conference for both the Stafford Eagles and the Paoli Bulldogs before moving on to the high school level at Malvern Preparatory School in Malvern, Pennsylvania.  After he relocated to Maryland, Ken was the Defensive Coordinator at both Smithsburg and Brunswick High Schools.  While at Smithsburg he coached in five State Championships games, capturing two state titles (1988, 1994).  In 1999, while at Brunswick High School he was instrumental in guiding the football program to it's first playoff win and State Championship appearance.
Ken was named to the Maryland High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, having received the John W. Voight Award in 2001 for providing 20 years of service.
In addition to coaching football, Ken enjoyed Lionel Trains, golf, deep sea fishing trips, and spending time at his vacation home at Cape May, New Jersey.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the father/son "Timeout" golf outings at Cacapon State Park in West Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Rider Lutz; two sons, Brian N. Lutz and wife Sandy of West Chester, Pennsylvania and Sean P. Lutz and wife Hilary of Townsend, Delaware; brother-in-law Thomas Grubic of York, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon, Ethan, Nicholas and Nathan.  He is also survived by his niece, Gail Grubic of York; his nephew, Mark Grubic of Austria; and his cousin, Nancy Baer and husband David of Maugansville, Maryland.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Grubic.
A ceremony in celebration of Ken's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  The family will spend time in fellowship with friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
