Kenneth Eugene Kern, Sr.

Kenneth Eugene Kern, Sr., 67, of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, passed from this life on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Frederick Health & Rehab in Frederick, MD. He was the husband of Linda Kern. 

Born on September 20, 1956, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of Kenneth Kern and Mary (Bens) Knott.

He graduated from high school in 1974 and went into the military shortly after graduation. He was a Private First Class of the United States Marine Corps from 1974-1977.

Kenneth Kern Sr. was a jack of all trades. He work many jobs throughout his life, from the military to bridge work, construction, farming, excavation and even Walmart and McDonald’s towards the end as he was retired. He was a member of the Frederick Moose Lodge

His grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. His love for his wife and family had no boundaries. He loved working on cars, fishing, shooting pool and gardening.

He is survived by children, Heather Moore (Craig), Kenneth Kern Jr., Marybeth Swire (Shawn), and Herbie Grimes (Becky); grandchildren: (in order of birth) Chris Moore, Jane Kern-Varelli, Taylor Grimes, Faith Swire, Trinity Swire, Riley Grimes, Jace Swire, Scarlett Moore, Evan Grimes and Evelyn Grimes; brothers: Keith, Kyle and Kerry; sisters, Kathy, Kim, Krissy, Karen, Klaudine, Karla, and Kelly; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Kern; nephew, DJ Radford; brother Kevin Kern; and his mother, Mary Bens Knott, passed 15 days after him. 

A celebration of Kenneth's life journey will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Frederick Moose Lodge, with a brief service beginning at 1 p.m.
