Kenneth Ellis

Kenneth Stewart Ellis, 92, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born on March 21, 1924, near Boonsboro, Maryland, to Stewart A. and Tillie (Brophy) Ellis, Kenneth was the forth of seven brothers and sisters.  The family moved to nearby Keedysville several years later, where Kenneth lived the rest of his life.

A 1942 graduate of Boonsboro High School, he entered military service soon after graduation.  He was deployed with the 1st Infantry to Great Britain and participated in the Normandy invasion at Omaha Beach.  Later he was selected for assignment to V Corps C.I.C. as a special agent until his discharge in 1946.

Resuming civilian life, Kenneth worked for 44 years at M. P. Moller Pipe Organ Works in Hagerstown.  He married his sweetheart, Nancy Wilhide, to whom he was married 57 years until her death in 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Brewer of Indiana, and four sons, Timothy, Christopher, Eric, and Teddy, all of whom live nearby.  Kenneth is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded by a grandson, Joseph M. Ellis.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was a long-time member of the Mt. Vernon Reformed Church in Keedysville, and he was also a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

Kenneth was a hardworking man who loved his family, his town, and his country, and willingly sacrificed much for many.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.  Rev. Delancy L. Catlett will officiate.  Military honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 from Boonsboro.
