Mr. Kelly Edward Deater, 49, of Frederick, MD, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Kelly was born on January 26, 1962, in Frederick, MD. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Deater, Jr., (Mutt), and his mother, Anna Lea Deater.
He is survived by his brother, John W. Deater (Mary) of Washington State and his sisters, Beth Deater Heffner (Allen) and Linda Deater-Sandy (Pat) of Frederick, Maryland, nephews and nieces, Heather, Patrick, Joshwa, Jessica, Brittany, Ross and Travis; and his great nephews and nieces, Zackariah, Dustin, Isaiah, Jordan, Jerrica, Gavin, Brianna, Demetris and Austin. He is also survived by many loving step-nephews and step-nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be remembered by his crew, Tim Koogle and Mark Sikes.
Kelly was a graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1980. He was a truly hard worker all of his life. In his early years he worked for Standard Building Systems as a welder. He then turned his talents towards becoming an electrician. He started with Hahn Electric and later worked for Maryland Electric and Noah Electric. Kelly’s passions were riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting and bowling. He seemed happiest when he was on his motorcycle, casting a fishing rod or just tossing that ball down the lane. In 1998 Kelly was involved in a tragic automobile accident which left him paralyzed. For 13 years his family became his sole health care providers tending to his every need and wish during this trying time. His kindness and dedication to family, friends and strangers was a testament to who he was. His presence and contagious smile made the world a better place and will be greatly missed by all.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to all of Kelly’s caregivers, Melissa Moser, Brittany Scott, Kaye McKenzie, Tracey Brown, Heather Ford and Jessica BonHomme Gaw.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, at 2PM from the funeral home chapel. Pastor J. Kenneth Stalls, from the South End Baptist Church will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Kelly’s request was that Memorial contributions be made to Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, West Orange Campus, 1999 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, New Jersey 07052 to assist in the research for a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Pall bearers are Tim Koogle, Mark Sikes, Pat Sandy, Allen Heffner, Patrick Ford and John Abrecht.
Interment will be in Clustered Spires Cemetery.
