Kay Whichard

May 23, 1941 — April 10, 2017

Kay Frances (Bolling) Whichard, 75, of Frederick, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life, surrounded by and in the hearts of friends, family, and loved ones, on Monday, April 10, 2017. Born on May 23, 1941, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kay was the eldest daughter of the late Francis Andrew and Nell (Little) Bolling.

As a young woman, Kay enjoyed riding and caring for horses, making several life-long friends, and developed a love for the outdoors. Attending Gray High School in Winston-Salem, she graduated in 1959. After high school and while employed at Western Electric, Kay met Jack Whichard and within a couple of weeks on November 12, 1962 they were married. The happy couple then moved to Hawaii and began their life together. Throughout her life, Kay studied and pursued her interest in painting and sculpture, becoming an accomplished artist. Over the years, Kay was able to indulge in her joy for nature and the outdoors with her family at the Rock Bottom Farm, and well as many wonderful days sailing on the Kudzu. As a career, Kay worked and excelled as a Graphic Artist.

Kay’s enjoyment of art and the outdoors was only second to her love of people. Kay participated in a variety of volunteer activities including hearth cooking at the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum and assisting with serving meals at a Gaithersburg soup kitchen. Devoted to her faith, she was an active member in the church and served on the Graceham Moravian Church Caring Team.

As a mother, wife, sister, and friend, Kay exemplified caring and faith. An inspiration to those around her, she led by example for others to follow throughout her life.

Kay was the beloved wife of Jack Whichard with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, Kay is survived by two sons, Brian Whichard (wife Paula Whichard), Zane Whichard, three grandchildren, Drake Whichard, Logan Whichard, and Elysia Whichard, her siblings and their families; sister B.J. Zenner (husband William Zenner), brother, Michael Bolling and daughter Tiffany; and sister, Tena Brass and sons Philip and Nicholas.
