Mrs. Katie Gorelick, 91, of Frederick, affectionately known by friends and family as Grandma Katie, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2008, at her home.
She was the wife of Philip Gorelick, who preceded her in death.
Born Dec. 2, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was orphaned shortly after birth and grew up in a local Brooklyn orphanage. At the age of 16, she went to live with a foster family in Patchogue, N.Y., where she lived until her marriage to Philip. She moved to Frederick in 1985 to be closer to her family.
Grandma Katie was a loving, compassionate person who engaged all she met with friendly conversation and incredible generosity. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and family. Grandma Katie enjoyed the beach, was very much a free spirit, her fashion statements were legendary and her generosity was evident by her actions. If you commented that you liked something she was wearing, she would literally offer you the shirt off her back.
She is survived by her son, Peter Gorelick and wife Margaret of Frederick; three grandchildren, Melanie Walmsley and husband Liam of Wilmington, N.C., Kathleen Gorelick and Kellsie Gorelick of Frederick; and many, many friends.
