Kathy Fitzwater

Kathy D. Fitzwater, 62, of Smithsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Julia Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown. She was the loving wife of David W. Fitzwater.

Born on September 18, 1956, in Olney, Maryland, she was the daughter of Barbara L. (Carter) Painter and the late Woodrow W. Painter.

She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School Class of 1974. Kathy then went to work at Comsat in Clarksburg in the 70's and 80's. Before private duty nursing, where she became a superviser at Helping Hands, she worked as a CNA/GNA in nursing facilities.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her son, Michael Parks of Smithsburg; and her daughter, Lois Parks of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Braylynn, Hayley and Shakira; her brother, Ralph Painter and wife, Cindy, of Sharpsburg; her sisters, Wanda McIntyre and fiancé, George Hurta, Jr., of Boonsboro, Donna Shepley and husband, Richard, of Smithsburg, and Barbara Jones and husband, Gary, of Hagerstown. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois A. Painter.
A celebration of Kathy's life journey will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland. Pastor Erik J. Peel will be officiant.
