Mrs. Katherine Marie Peters, 89, of Gettysburg, Pa., formerly of Thurmont, Md., died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. She was the wife of the late William Peters, who predeceased her in 1973.
Born August 9, 1922 in Emmitsburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Guy and Mary Adams Clabaugh.
Mrs. Peters was a homemaker, as well as a babysitter for many years. She also enjoyed sewing.
She is survived by seven children, Virginia Harbaugh of Gettysburg; Arlene Beard and husband, Luther, of Thurmont; Gloria Mumpower of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; Joseph Peters and wife, Ann, of Gettysburg; Nancy Bankard, and husband, Paul, of Thurmont; David Peters and friend, Jennifer, of Emmitsburg; and Penny Stup and husband, David, of Clearville, Pa. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, Annette Delaplaine, Melissa Allamong, Lorretta Hahn, Adam Harbaugh, Pam Bowers, Donna Bailey, Mike Beard, Wendy Hardman, Karen Ruby, Richard Mumpower, Ronnie Mumpower, Tina Smetzer, Kelli Bankard, Steve Bankard, Jennifer Stup, Kristen Stup, and Megan Stup; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Clingan of Thurmont, and Margaret Stull and husband, Clifford, also of Thurmont; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Sam Harbaugh; a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Howard; a brother-in-law, Jerry Clingan and a nephew, Kenny Clabaugh.
Friends may visit from 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Janet Comings from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Sabillasville, Md.
Interment to follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa. Serving as bearers will be her grandsons, Steve Bankard, Mike Beard, Richard Mumpower, Ronald Mumpower, and Adam Harbaugh; and her great-grandsons, Justin Hahn, Erick Wagaman, and Bryan Myers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, Pa. 17325.
