Katherine Angela Bonney

Katherine Angela Bonney, 71, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Walkersville, MD. 

Born on November 12, 1951, in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Ralph Antonio Amato and Katherine (Wallace) Amato.

Kathy graduated from North Smithfield High School in the Class of 1969. Upon graduation, she had a whirlwind romance with Craig. They married on July 4th, 1970. Together they lived in Connecticut for 9 years where they had their children. A job opportunity brought them to Maryland shortly after Elizabeth was born.

Kathy was an active member of The Glade United Church of Christ and Glade Valley Homemakers. 
She was an avid lover of nature, animals, and the beach. Her hobbies included gardening and feeding all the neighborhood animals-cats, squirrels, opossums, birds, and racoons. On all her beach vacations, she loved collecting shells and sea glass if she could find it. She was a fantastic baker; her apple pie was a family favorite. She brought joy to everyone and was always interested in everyone’s stories. Most of all she loved being a Nana and Mother. She took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. She was the nana standing at the bus stop with blankets to keep you warm and surprising you with your favorite snacks. She volunteered for all the class parties and attended all sporting and music events: cheerleading, swimming, softball, baseball, piano recitals, violin concerts, and trumpet concerts.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents Ralph Amato, Kathrine Amato, and sister, Rebecca Amato.

She is survived by her Husband of 52 years, Craig W. Bonney and her Two Daughters and their spouses Jennifer Angela Bonney-Ray, Christopher Ray and Elizabeth Lake, Thomas Lake Jr. She is forever cherished and remembered by her five grandchildren, Vanessa Lake, Stella Lake, Tucker Ray, Wynter Lake, and Brooks Ray. 

Her memory lives on with her siblings, Ralph Amato, Sharon Bodner, Joseph Amato, Jeffery Amato, Barry Amato, Russell Amato Sr., Eric Amato, Karen Amato, Robin Allard, Bambi Senecal, Deb Milano, Wesley Amato. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, at Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville, MD. Services will follow at 11:00am. Thomas Lake Jr. and Chad Weddle will officiate. Interment will be at Glade Cemetery in Walkersville, MD. A reception will follow at Glade United Church of Christ.
