Mr. Karl Ivanisin, 58, of Frederick, MD passed away Saturday, April 13,2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was the husband of Therese M. (Mijavec) Ivanisin for 31 years.

Born on December 9, 1954 in Youngstown, OH he was the son of Julia E. (Kaminski) Ivanisin of Frederick, MD and the late Stanley J. Ivanisin.

Mr. Ivanisin was a graduate of Poland Seminary High School and Youngstown State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Engineering.  Karl has been employed by Bechtel as an Electrical Engineer since 1981.  He began his career as an electrical engineer on the Calvert Cliffs project and maintained that position for approximately 18 years.  Over the rest of his career he worked on various projects including fossil fuels, nuclear, government, and private projects.  He spent from 2001- 2006 working in Alabama with TVA at the Brown's Ferry plant.  In March he was assigned again to work with TVA in Tennessee.


Karl had been an active member of St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church for 30 years.  He frequently volunteered as an usher, served as president of the Men's Club for about 8 years and was in the process of joining the Knights of Columbus.  He also loved cooking for both his family and the community.  While with the Men's Club he helped initiate the annual Breakfast With Santa for the children and Lenten Fish Fries.

Karl enjoyed traveling to Ohio and the Carolinas to spend time with family and especially with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling to Morgantown, West Virginia to attend WVU football games with his son and daughter-in-law.  Over the years he supported and encouraged the various hobbies and activities of his son.  Cooking along with his brother and sister-in-law at their concession stands in Ohio was also a relaxing hobby.


In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by his son K. Philip Ivanisin, Jr. and new daughter-in-law Savanna Vasquez of Morgantown, WV; brothers and sister Dolores Rostron and husband Gary of Conway, SC, Gregory Ivanisin and wife Susan of Hubbard, OH and Brian Ivanisin of Philadelphia, PA; his aunt Mary Pustay of Ravanna, OH; brothers-in-law Alex Mijavec of New Bedford, PA and Mark Mijavec and wife Denise of Warren, OH and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews who were the love of his life.

He is preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Ivanisin.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 11-2 PM and at  St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, 5843 Manor Woods Rd., Frederick from 4-6 PM where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 6 PM. Father Lawrence Frazier will be the celebrant.


Donations may be made to St. Jospeh-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church Building Fund or to the family in care of Stauffer Funeral Homes at the above mentioned address.
