It is with great sadness that the family of Kari Warner Swan-McKittrick announce her passing. Kari, 68, of Woodsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. She was the loving wife of Clay McKittrick for 49 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, daughter Erin McKittrick, son Jesse McKittrick and wife, Jen; grandchildren, Olivia, Brooke, Hannah, Ava, Luca, Jack, and Gabby; a brother, John Swan, and countless other family members and many, many special friends.
Born on July 2, 1956, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Swan and Mary Louise (Smith) Swan. Kari attended college and received her Bachelor's Degree in History while lovingly caring for and raising her children. She spent 10 years as a special education teacher at the Baltimore County Public Schools. Kari formerly volunteered at Frederick Health Hospital and was a member of the New Friends organization, having recently been in charge of coordinating their monthly Friday Breakfast Club. She loved to read books and belonged to several book clubs over the years. She was associated with the Frederick Book Arts Center. She was incredibly proud of her home studio, filled with many art and textile supplies. She was a highly skilled Mixed Media Artist and Quilter. Her artistic skills afforded her the opportunity of a mixed media art display at the Delaplaine Arts Center.
Kari lived a full life filled with adventure and travel. She swam with dolphins and took countless worldwide trips with Clay and her family. Some trips included Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Israel, and Germany. Kari took an extended girl's trip to Italy. There were countless trips and art retreats with friends. Her daughter was honored to participate in the Art and Soul retreat with her last year. No adventure was too big or too small for her. She loved to travel but was always happy to come home surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She could always be found by the pool, crafting in her studio, or digging in her garden with her grandchildren and puppies, making magic for them. Kari enjoyed cooking, crafting, and making things beautiful and bright. She nurtured her friendships with care. She was always ready with a hug, a smile, a dose of laughter, whatever was needed. She found joy in her hobbies, joy in her family, and joy in her friends. She was loved. She will be deeply missed by many.
The family wishes to thank all the friends and family for the cards, food, trinkets, kindness, well wishes, prayers, and support offered during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD, with a celebration of Kari's life to begin at 1 p.m.
