Mrs. Karen S. Simms, 53, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2012 at her home in Boston, Massachusetts after a lengthy illness. Born in Frederick, Maryland on July 5, 1958, she was the daughter of Regina Thomas and the late Leonard Thomas. She was the devoted wife of Jessie Lee Simms, who she married on July 6, 1991.
She is also survived by a brother, Michael Cemley, and a sister, Diane James. She was a 1976 graduate of Frederick High School, a 1980 graduate of Morgan State University, and completed her education at M.I.T, graduating in 1983 with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
She was employed by M.I.T. from 1986 to 2008 as an Electrical Engineer, and was a lifetime member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Adamstown, Maryland. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland on Thursday, January 12, 2012, with the Rev. Charlotte Smith, Poplar Grove Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive guests at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Frederick, Maryland.
