Karen Shifler

Karen Elaine Shifler, 81, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, June 7, 2021, in Boonsboro, Maryland. She was the wife of John W. Shifler for 58 years before his passing in 2017.

Born on March 30, 1940, in Middletown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Millard Toms, Sr., and Ferne Virginia (Michael) Toms.

She is survived by her children, J. Michael Shifler, Darin L. Shifler, Jeffrey S. Shifler and Krista J. Shifler; grandchildren to whom she was known as “Nanny”, Michael A. Shifler, Casey L. Shifler, Justyn M. Shifler (Lindsey), Jordyn L. Himes (Nathan) and Zachary C. Shifler (Alyssa) and Meghan A. Cordell; great-grandchildren, Adalynne G. Shifler, Isaiah R. Shifler, Isla G. Himes and Noah J. Himes. She is also survived by her brother, Richard M. Toms (Deborah) and sister-in-law, Joyce M. Toms and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur M. Toms Jr. and Kenneth L. Toms, Sr. and sister, Jean L. Foster; her beloved grandson, Tyler L. Shifler and great-granddaughter, Kiera L. Shifler.

Services are private. Interment will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
