Kap Lian Thang, 67, of Frederick, Maryland, has passed away at approximately 7:40 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017, at Lorien Nursing Home in Mount Airy. He was the husband of Tin Tlem, with whom he was married to for 39 years.
He was born July 7, 1950 in Zongte, Burma to the late Van Hnuai Khup and Hrang Nawn.
He was a beloved teacher who taught high school in Tahan, Burma, for 22 years until he eventually moved to the United States in 2001. He had a lively personality, making jokes every now and then.
He was the sixth out of eleven children; he had four brothers and six sisters. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Tial Hlei Sum. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Cung Lian Mawi and Ni Lian Mawi, and his only son:Van Hu Luai. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Obed Cung Van Thang, Siang Em Par, and Ariel Lal Rin Mawi along with nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for the body-viewing on Friday, October 13, from 2-5 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 14, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Harvest Christian Fellowship, 8707 Indian Springs Rd, Frederick, MD 21702. The burial will take place from 3:45-4:45p.m at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701.
