June E. (Lowery) Harris, 53, of Boonsboro, Maryland, loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 31, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her home, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born on February 20, 1959, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she is the daughter of Shirley (Wagner) Lowery of Rohrersville, Maryland and the late William Lowery.
June was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Keedysville, Maryland.
She was a 1977 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a 1979 graduate of Hagerstown Junior College, where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing.
Upon graduation from nursing school, June began her nursing career at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland where she worked as a registered nurse for more than thirty years. Most recently, June was appointed as a Nursing Supervisor for Shady Grove Hospital, overseeing the daily monitoring and procedures of other nurses. She took great pride in being a nurse and loved to help others in their time of need. She will be fondly remembered by her family as the one to come to when anyone had questions or was seeking medical advice.
She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters of Keedysville along with her grandmother, mother and sister.
June is survived by her loving husband, Kevin L. Harris, whom she married on August 18, 1979; a daughter, Sarah Harris of Boonsboro; and a son, Joshua Harris at home. She is also survived by a sister, Julie Smith of Laurel, Maryland; and two brothers, Wayne Lowery and his wife, Dawn of Boonsboro and Keith Lowery and his wife, Sue of Rohrersville.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 53 North Main Street, Keedysville, Maryland. The Rev. Eric R. Moser will officiate. Family will receive friends for a fellowship meal immediately following the service in the church social room.
