Judith B. Saunders

December 15, 1932 — March 14, 2010

Judith B. Saunders of Mt. Airy, age 77, went to be with our Lord on March 14, 2010 after battling complications of Alzhiemers.

Judy was a beloved wife, devoted mother of 12, grandmother of 35 and great grandmother of 20.

Born in Richmond, VA, she would later meet and marry her soul mate, Robert L. Saunders, while he was serving in the United States Air Force.

After living in several states, Judy and her growing family settled in Cuyahoga Falls, OH to raise 9 of their children. Better employment took the still growing family to Potomac, MD where the final 3 children were born and raised.

Wherever Judy lived, she reveled in being involved with church activities and for a time, taught exercise classes. She made friends wherever she went and treated her children's friends as though they were her own. Many of her children's friends clamored to be the "13th" child and the common saying in Judy's household was "there's always room for one more". Judy felt her biggest blessings were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

There was nothing more precious to her than holding her sleeping babies, playing with them and being surrounded by them on holidays. She made sure that each and every one of them had a Christmas gift under the tree. In recent years, she and her husband derived a great deal of friendship and camaraderie from their many friends at the Elks Club in Rockville. But Judy will be most sorely missed at home in the heart of her family, as she was the Heart of her family.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert L. Saunders. She is also survived by her sons - Terry Saunders, Scott Saunders, Lane Saunders, Ryan Saunders and his wife Lynette. Her daughters - Debbie Saunders, Sue Burlew and her husband Bill, Kimberly Greene, Kathy Hart and her husband Rick, Becky Hoffman and her husband Jeff, Shannon Tomich and her husband Dave, Danielle Ferguson and her husband Pat and Merry Lehman. In addition to her sons and daughters, she is survived by 35 grand children and 20 great grand children.

Visitation: Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 17, from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy.

Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11:00am on Thursday March 18, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1200 St. Michael's Road, Mt. Airy, MD. 21771. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Saunders family request that donations be made to the Frederick Hospice organization.
