Juanita Louise Conkling, 67, of Arlington, VA and Chesapeake, MD, died on Friday, November 9, 2012 from complications of pneumonia.
Born in Baltimore on July 16, 1945 to the late Harry O. and Louise Davis Karn. She was the wife of the late Captain Raymond Conkling, U.S. Navy.
Juanita graduated from Middletown High School and was employed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for one year under the Director J. Edgar Hoover. She attended George Washington University and later joined the U.S. House of Representatives in May of 1965. She worked for the House Sergeant of Arms and the Chief Administrative Officer as the payroll/benefits administrator in the Office of Member Services. She retired in March of 2006 with a reception at the U. S. Capital. After retirement she enjoyed traveling over the world, golfing, boating, reading, tending her rose garden and spending time with family and friends at her bay residence.
She is survived by her sister Gloria Eaves and husband Bob of New Windsor, MD, a brother G. Frank Karn and wife Darla of Abbottstown, PA, nephews, Jefferson Eaves and wife Megan of Taneytown, Robert Conkling and wife Veronica of VA, nieces Cynthia Eaves Graham and husband Jim of Hanover, PA, Stephanie Scordo of Bethany Beach, DE, great-nephews, Jackson R. Eaves, James M. Graham IV, and Tai Scordo, great-nieces, Jordan L. Eaves, Macie J. Eaves and Sienna Scordo and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her beloved dog Tiffany. She will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at which time services will begin. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
