John Robert "Bob" Boyer, age 80, of Clear Spring, MD, and formerly of Boonsboro and Frederick, entered eternal life Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bob bravely struggled with a long illness.
Bob was the beloved husband of his wife Elizabeth "Libby" Boyer, who was his primary caregiver during his illness.
Born Oct. 2, 1928 in Antietam Furnace, MD, Bob was the son of the late John Lewis and Alta May Lawson Boyer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Lou Butts Boyer, Sept. 5, 2000.
Bob was an agent with State Farm Insurance Co., in Boonsboro for 33 years, where he qualified for many awards including the President's Club.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant and medic where he was awarded two bronze stars for bravery in the field of battle.
Bob had been a member of Benevola United Methodist Church for over 45 years. He joined the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Hagerstown upon moving to his farm in Clear Spring.
He was a life member of the Lions Club.
Bob was a loving father to his children, daughter Cindy A. Burtner (John) of Keedysville, and son Steve R. Boyer (Angie) of Hagerstown; two step daughters Michele L. Martineau (Richard) of Slatington, PA, and Jennifer A. Wilt (Neil) of Etters, PA; two sisters, Ruth L. Hetzel (George) of Hagerstown and June E. Meyer (John) of Falling Waters, WV; five grandchildren Megan, Haley (Dustin), Amanda, Jake and Courtney and four step grandchildren Michael, Griffin, Miranda and Christina.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday, Feb. 3, from the Benevola United Methodist Church, 19925 Benevola Church Road, Boonsboro, MD. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison and Rev. Helen Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 7 P.M. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD.
