Miss Joyce Ann Smith, of Thurmont, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 1013. Born September 6, 1945, she was the youngest daughter of the late Charles Edward and Beatrice Messner Smith.
Joyce lived her entire life near Thurmont, MD, until she went to live in a United Cerebral Palsy group home in 2004. At the time of her death she resided in a home in Walkersville. Before going to United Cerebral Palsy, she attended Harmony Grove School, and later Scott Key Center.
Joyce loved little children, music, singing, being with her family, and eating out. She had a special love for caregivers and house mates, Kathy Poole and Gail Smith.
She is survived by one brother, Richard Smith, Fairfield, PA; three sisters, Patricia Bass and husband Haskell, Tulsa, OK; Doris Rippeon, New Midway; Nancy Creager and husband Donald, Thurmont; a sister-in-law, Betty Smith, Fairfield, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother , Charles Robert Smith, a sister, Joan Sease Clarke, brothers-in-law, Terry Sease, Ron Clarke and Rayue Rippeon, and a special aunt, Ethel Messner.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Thursday, February 28, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, where services will be held Friday, March 1, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Kim Phillips officiating.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
