Joy P. Deater

Joy P. Deater, age 73, of Frederick, surrounded by her loving family, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

 She is survived by her loving husband, James Deater, Sr., and their three children, James Jr. (Jennifer), Jody, and Jason (Natalie). Joy was blessed with seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three siblings, Jerry Harris, Jamie Harris, and Jo Anne Pritchett (Gary).

Joy and James, Sr. were high school sweethearts and celebrated 54 years of marriage on July 14th. Joy became a registered nurse in 1974 and had a tremendous impact on the lives of many during her 30+ year career as a nurse. She was a graduate of Frederick Community College and the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the Sigma Theta Tau International Inc. Joy retired as the nursing manager of the PACU/ENDO at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Joy loved to craft and had a tremendous talent for sewing. Her children often volunteered her skills to various organizations to create costumes. She always loved creating Halloween costumes for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joy was a life member of the Junior Fire Company #2 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Maryland State Ladies Auxiliary. Joy is a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick. She will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends.

To honor Joy’s passing, a viewing will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumetown Pike Frederick, MD 21702.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 South Market Street Frederick, MD 21701.

 A celebration of Joy’s life will be announced at a later date this Spring.
