Joseph L. Spriggs
January 28, 1932 — March 23, 2009
Joseph L. Spriggs, 77 of Fredericksburg VA died March 23, 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born January 28, 1932 in Burkittsville MD, he was the son of the late Catherine L. Dorsey, stepson of the late Roy C. Dorsey. He was predeceased by his wife Lucy Duvall Spriggs in 1994.
He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 23 years. After retirement from the Air Force he moved to Alaska and worked on the pipeline for several years. He and his wife returned to Washington D.C. and he was employed by Children's Hospital as an electrician. Once retiring from Children's Hospital he settled in Fredericksburg VA.
He is survived by two devoted sisters, Catherine E. Jackson, Knoxville and Betty B. Dorsey, Burkittsville, stepdaughter Cynthia Harding, 2 step-grandsons Tyronne and Lavail. Three sister-in-laws Malcinia Diggs and husband, Mary Toombs and husband and Flora Haynes. Two brother-in-laws William Duvall and Hugh Duvall and wife. He is also survived by a foster sister Mary E. Brown, special friend India Harrison and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother Alfred and sister Dorothy.
Visitation: The family will receive friends prior to the 11:00 a.m. service at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick Maryland on Saturday, March 28, 2009.
Services: Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Frederick Memorial Hospital, Intensive Care Unit.
