Joseph L. Hackett

Mr. Joseph L. Hackett, 70, of Walkersville died on Friday, February 2, 2007 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was husband of Phyllis A. Boice Hackett, his wife of 42 years.

Born on January 11, 1937, in Springfield, OH he was the son of the late John R. and Alice P. Parker Hackett.

Joseph was a microbiologist and clinical pathologist for the Food and Drug Administration. He was a graduate of Ohio State University earning a B.S. in Medical Technology, Masters in Microbiology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Pathology. Mr. Hackett was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology and the American Board of Bioanalysis. Joseph was an active member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council.

He enjoyed dominoes, reading, gardening, genealogy, Civil War Enactments and wine making. Joseph was an accomplished magician and a member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians

Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 daughters: Amy Morris and husband Brett of West Virginia, Beth Iluz and husband Yaniv of New York and Susan Hackett of Walkersville; a son, Ron Hackett of North Carolina; 6 grandchildren: Wyatt Morris, Jared Morris, Callie Morris, Laurel Morris, Logan Morris and Lilly Morris; a sister, Pat Mehl and husband Mike of Middleton, OH and a brother-in-law, William Boice and wife Gail of Pittsburgh.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, February 4, at Stauffer

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 5, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville with Rev. Richard Murphy as Celebrant.

Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Melanoma Research Foundation, 24 Old Georgetown Rd., Princeton, NJ 08540
