Joseph "Joe" Rohr

Joseph "Joe" Robert Rohr, 90, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on April 30, 1923, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Charles Gary and Viola Belle (McFarland) Rohr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Grace (Bowers) Rohr, whom he had married on January 1, 1948.
Joe graduated from Williamsport High School in 1942.
He was a Sergeant during World War II having served the United States Army with the 189th Labor Supervision Center in the European Theater of Operations.  He participated in Aviation Cadet Training School in Colorado and California, and was discharged in 1946 after just over three years of service.
Joe retired from Mack Trucks after 22 years, and had owned several independent businesses both before and after his employment with Mack, one of which was the Village Bronze Shop.
He was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Brownsville, Maryland, where he was a former board member and chairman of the building committee. He was also a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro and UAW 171 in Hagerstown.
Joe particularly enjoyed his times at lunch with the "kids" from his high school class.
He is survived by his three children, Tim Rohr and wife Jean of Sharpsburg, Donna S. Utterback and husband Chris of Hagerstown, and Sheila K. Slifer and husband Dave of Boonsboro. He is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Orville W., and Earl Mason Rohr.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Maryland. Rev. Alan M. Smith and Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Brownsville Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
