Mrs. Josephine Alice Derr (Pettingall), 91, of Walkersville, MD passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at HeartFields Assisted Living. She was the wife of Raymond E. Pettingall.
Born December 9, 1920 in Keymar, MD she was the daughter of the late William Nathan and Ida Amanda Garber Blume.
Mrs. Derr was a member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps for 3 years during WWII. She was the owner and operator of Glade Valley Beauty Shop for 30 years in Walkersville. Josephine was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walkersville and a member of Glen L. Eyler Woodsboro American Legion, Post 282. Josephine also drove a school bus for the Rock Creek Center for 4 years.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children Donna D. Warner and husband Frank of Thurmont, William E. Derr and wife Barbara of Harpers Ferry, WV, J. Scott Derr of Greencastle, PA and Roberta D. Leaverton and husband Bruce of Cordova, MD; stepchildren Patricia A. Pettingall of Frederick, Carol L. O'Brien of Myersville and D. Darlene Sisk and husband Micah of Frederick. Mommy Jo is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 step- grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at HeartFields Assisted Living and Hospice of Frederick Co. for their loving care and concern.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Donald L. Derr and her brother Melvin Blume.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville, MD Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 3 PM. Rev. Foucart will officiate.
Interment will be private.
