Mr. Joseph Delmar Maher Jr. U.S.A.F. Col. (Ret.) 89, of New Market were he had lived for over 23 years, died on Friday April 25, at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda. He was the husband of Magie C. Maher.
Born on December 16, 1918 in Englewood, NJ., he was the son of the late Joseph Delmar and Kathryn M. Gallagher Maher.
Mr. Maher attended high school in Bogota, NJ, attended Sorbonne College in France, he became a Civil Engineer after his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and also attended Advance Flying School, Douglas Arizona Central Instructors Schools and Randolph Field in Texas.
Mr. Maher was a Fighter Pilot during his time in the U. S. Air Force he was assigned to Alaska, Japan, Turkey, Italy and many other places.
After his retirement from Military Service he was employed by several companies such as ITT and Northrop.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son John Mark. Three Grandchildren. Sister Kathryn M. Ermentrout and a brother Frank Xavier Maher.
Mr. Maher was preceded in death by his wife Clara Maher and a son Gary Maher.
Visitation: Friends may call on Friday May 2, 2008 from 2-4 pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD.
Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 3, 2008 at 10:00am at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. The Rev. Michael J. Jendrek will officiate.
Interment will be In Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors on Monday July 7, 2008 at 11:00am. Those attending should arrive by 10:30am at the Cemetery Administration Building.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church.
