Joseph Thompson

Mr. Joseph Kyle Thompson, 90, of Frederick, died on Friday, March 18th, 2011 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Jean A. ( Appleton ) Thompson.

Born on October 2, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio he was a son of the late Harry and Mary ( Kyle ) Thompson.


Mr. Thompson was a member of the Frederick Presbyterian Church, an Elder with the Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Camp Springs Presbyterian Church. He attended the Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania, was a graduate of Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas receiving an Honorary PHD, was a graduate of Kansas University, receiving his Masters and PHD in Chemistry. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WW II. He retired from the Naval Research Lab, Washington, DC after forty years of service. He was a member of the American Chemistry Society and the N.A.R.F.P.

Surviving beside his wife are three sons, John R. Thompson, James A. Thompson and Jeffrey M. Thompson, a brother Robert H. Thompson and wife Barbara and a cousin Charles Kyle. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and brother.

Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Sunday, March 20th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 West Second St., Frederick, MD 21701 . Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Rev. Dr. Eric T. Myers will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Presbyterian Church or a charity of one’s choice.
