On Friday, January 17, 2014 at 9:12AM, Joseph Michael Shears, age 75, dearly beloved brother of Veronica Lack and Dolores Carney, died peacefully at Gilchrist Hospice Care Center. Joe is also survived by Deborah Blankenship (niece) and Sean Carney (nephew) and several great nieces and nephews. Joe worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric as a cabinet maker for over thirty years and continued his passion for woodworking in retirement. He was actively involved with St. Michael's Catholic Church, Poplar Springs and was a charter and honored member of the Knight's of Columbus Council 10525. Viewing and Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, starting at 9:00AM-11:00AM followed immediately by a Mass and Christian Burial at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael’s Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771. Father Michael Ruane will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to "The Joe Shears Endowment Fund for St. Michael's Church", 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mt. Airy, Maryland 21771.
