Mr. Joseph Pline, 91, of Jefferson, passed away on June 7, 2009 at St. Catherine's Nursing Home, Emmitsburg, Maryland. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 39 years, Bettyrose Pline.
Born September 13, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa, he was the son of the late Jacob and Mary Pline. He was a member of the 1939 graduating class of Boys Town, and awarded the "Father Flanagan's Boys Town Spirit of Youth Award" in 1997.
Mr. Pline was a retired Chief Petty Officer of 24 years, for the United States Navy. He also worked as a security officer for the Atomic Energy Commission.
A 58 year member of the Ruritan's, Mr. Pline was a member of the Jefferson Ruritan Club, Jefferson, Maryland, and a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve Association, Unit 142.
Mr. Pline dedicated his life to serving others, and was generous and supportive of many local charitable organizations such as the Jefferson Ruritan Club, Frederick Community College, Friends of Catholic Education, and Boys Town, of Omaha.
He and his late wife, Bettyrose touched many lives. Joe's quiet spirit and easy smile will be deeply missed by many, including Dare Riley, Dan Shields, Sammie Hayas, Fran Debyl, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith.
He was also predeceased in death by his brother, Francis Pline, and his two sisters Stella Spurl and Mary Hepter.

Services:
Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 4231 Catholic Church Road, Petersville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 with Father George A. Limmer, assisted by Reverend Mr. Lawrence P. Teixeira, officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
