Joseph- Joey to many and Joe to most. But also "son," "bro," "husband," "dad," "Uncle Joe," "Mr. Joe", "Papa Joe," "dude," "The man." Joe was a gentleman rebel who had a mighty love for his family and friends, and was mightily loved in return.
Joe was a humbled, kind man who valued the happiness of others above his own. He was loyal, generous, hospitable to all, casual in that way that puts people at their ease. He was also stubborn, strong-willed, and often opinionated. He always enjoyed a good argument, and took on all challengers. He was supremely confident, even sometimes against the odds. He was mindful of the little things that matter. He put that confidence, strong will, stubbornness, and attention to detail to good use as successful entrepreneur who started two companies.
Joe grew up playing sports and was a fierce competitor all his life. Whether it was golf, fishing, lacrosse, or playing cards, he focused on winning. As an avid fan, he loved watching football, golf, NASCAR, and most recently World Cup Soccer.
Joe was a romantic, because who but a romantic would know all the lyrics to the soundtrack from Grease? He was a great cook, famous grillmeister, party host, and story-teller. Even in his final days, he entertained his family with his quick wit and sense of humor, maintaining a positive attitude. It was his last gift to us.
He was fun-loving. He lived life to the fullest, and loved hard: a role model. And he will be so missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Acknowledgements should be sent to Laurie.Leitner@mac.com.
