Joseph Miller King, 78, of Thurmont, died on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Linda King. They were married for 51 years.
Born on February 2, 1938 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Irene (Miller) King.
Joe was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Frostburg State University.
He began working with Frederick County Public Schools in 1964 as an elementary school teacher and then as a school administrator with Thurmont, Yellow Springs, Woodsboro/New Midway and Kemptown elementary schools. Additionally, he worked at FCPS Central Office as a Title I Coordinator.
He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Redskins fan. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Shelley King, and fiancé Stephen Lyons of Arlington, VA; his son, Tim King, and wife Michele of Selby, DE, and their two children, Zoe and Sam; a brother, Jim King; and a sister, Judy Corderman.
Joe will be remembered by his good friend, Don Cline.
He was predeceased by a brother, John King.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 27 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where a memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Jones.
